Creating an inner sanctuary

In a world that never seems to stop, finding stillness in our mind is a precious gift we can give ourselves. By creating stillness in our mind, as if to catch our thoughts, we create an inner sanctuary that we can come to when facing challenges, stress and overwhelm

Every day stressors are alerting our brain that we are in danger and so we are stimulating the brain & body in the same way we would if a bear was chasing us. This is where ew go into a Nervous system response and parts of our brain are cut off and others flooded with insane amounts of energy. This can cause bodily responses of sweat, shakes, panic attacks, tears - you name it.

The next time you find yourself experiencing overwhelm, anxiety or a challenging moment where you are feeling activated in your body, I invite you to focus on 3 techniques:

  • BREATHE - Bring you breathe to a deep and slow count. in through the nose and out through the mouth (or nose)
    Try a count:
    breath in for 8 - breathe out for 12
    count x 5 rounds and repeat.
    (HERE WE SUPPORT THE BODY)

  • VISION – Picture a moment in your mind you were so grateful, at peace, happy. Perhaps a moment you felt loved. Bring your emotional awareness to a known place in your mind to focus on, this provides safety to the emotional brain.

  • JOURNAL – Usually the rational mind is switched off when we are feeling activated within our nervous system, so engaging in a practice of writing allows the switch to be turned back on in the frontal lobe of your brain. You may find writing offers you a new perspective, a lightness to the current state of being.

In our search for stillness, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-mastery. We learn to let go of the noise that does not serve us, and instead, cultivate a sense of inner peace and tranquility that radiates into all aspects of our lives.

With the absence of mental chatter we can listen to the whispers of our own intuition and connect with our innermost truths.
