shifting your relationship to Big emotions

You are here as you have deep interest in the journey to becoming more aware of your mindset and more connected with your body.

So.. HOW DO THESE BIG EMOTIONS SHOW UP IN YOUR BODY & WHAT STORY IS CURRENTLY ATTACHED TO THIS EMOTION?

  • Sadness

  • Anger

  • Guilt

  • Shame

  • Fear

  • Gratitude/Joy

When we can understand our relationship to these regular, everyday emotions we can begin to train our body and mind to simply feel and detach from a story or meaning.

When we can detach, we then do not act from this emotion

Instead we see it, become aware
We feel, offer ourselves a deep breathe, a hug, a hot drink to soothe, maybe a little dance or a “shake it off” moment AND
we can then take action from a regulated, aware state with our rational mind, bigger perspective apart of that journey.

How many times do you think “ I wish I didn’t waste so much energy on worrying about that and all the fake scenarios” or “ Sorry for reacting that way” or “ I wish I responded this way..”

It all sounds like an “easy ride” until we are so deep in the emotion we are blinded by it and simply let it guide the rest our of our day… our life..

So, start small, take a moment of reflection, perhaps once a week - I love to do a little evening reflection, before I shower or go to sleep - and ask yourself these questions:

  • What is my current relationship with (emotion)?

  • How does it show up in my body?

  • What comes to mind when I feel this emotion?

  • How do I act when I am within this emotion?

You build your awareness of the emotion and its current role/story attachment that it has within the mind - You might be surprised at what you uncover as your write about it..

With this awareness you could follow with this action:

  • Take a deep breathe inhale x 8 exhale x 10 - repeat 5 times

  • Then ask yourself, can I feel the sensations in my body of (emotion) ?

  • And then, just sit with it and try and focus on the sensations without getting the mind into a story. Just sit in the emotion and feel...

By doing this we can build an acceptance, a deeper understanding and resilience to any big emotions that may show up in life. It becomes a process of letting go.

When we can understand these emotions, how they show up in the mind and body, we can build our awareness to create change in our life.
